Inviting a Doula
"The doula's education, quiet support and guidance are a manifestation of the traditional postpartum support that our society is missing." -DONA International, Position Paper, 2002
Doulas are trained professionals who offer emotional, physical, and informational support to individuals and families in the childbearing year: during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
I live west of Oklahoma City and love connecting with clients out west, but the majority of my clients live in the metro area: OKC, Edmond, Norman, Yukon & Mustang. I don't mind traveling within a 90 minute radius and have never missed a birth.
Knowing Mother Core Values
Self-determination. Control over sex and reproduction are basic human rights. People have the right to consent to sex, pregnancy, and medical treatment.
Personal Intuition. Decisions are not only made by logic, but also by intuition and self-knowledge. The "right" choice will be different for each person.
Unconditional Support. Everyone deserves support free of terms, conditions, and judgments.
Horizontal Health & Wellness. Daily wellness practices, community support networks, and access to health information help communities thrive.
Reproductive Justice. Sexual and reproductive health issues are intersectional human rights issues. Reproductive oppression is a systemic issue with compiling factors: race, ability, class, gender, sexuality, age, native language, national origin, and immigration status.
